FUR Dry, the wet dog solution

You know the scenario far too well: you’ve just bathed your dog but before you can towel them dry he unleashes a mighty shake that spews water droplets everywhere followed by the on-the-back-full-body wiggle on your carpet, sofa or bedspread. It appears that our wet pet is enjoying themselves as he shakes, rubs, and rolls all over the house. They do this because they just don’t like to stay wet. Our pets, like us, want to be dry, cozy, and warm.

FUR Dry is a patented dog drying wrap that addresses the nuisance of wet dogs. Made with special microfiber fabric, the FUR Dry rapidly draws water away from a dog’s coat and into the material’s absorbent fibers. FUR Dry wraps are available in five adjustable sizes, from extra small to extra-large, for dogs of all breeds and ages.

Soggy Doggy Super Shammy

• Quick drying & odor free

• Convenient hand pockets

• One size dries all

• Machine Wash & Dry

Each of the “noodles” in the Soggy Doggy Doormat® and Soggy Doggy Super Shammy is made from millions of textured, ultrafine strands woven together, so the surface area of these products is much greater than meets the eye. The expansive surface area is the secret to microfiber chenille’s tremendous absorbing power and super-fast drying!

The microfiber chenille blend allows the Soggy Doggy Doormats® and Super Shammys to soak up water and dirt like a sponge! The doormats absorb 5x more water than regular cotton doormats and the Super Shammy can hold up to 7x its weight in water. The material is exceptionally hard-working and goes right in the washer and dryer. But the chenille also makes it velvety-soft and gentle under delicate paws and bellies.

Why Should Pet Food Have Moisture?

Taken from The Honest Kitchen:

Kidney diseases and urinary tract issues in cats are rampant in this country. Cats, being desert animals by nature, are designed to get water from their food. A cat’s normal prey is at least 70% water. Dry food only contains 5-10% moisture, while canned and dehydrated foods (as well as fresh and frozen raw) have over 70% moisture on an as-fed basis.

The Importance of Moisture in Pet Food
Domestic cats may not be inclined to drink as much water from a bowl as they would from a moving water source, even moreso than dogs. This lack of moisture in the diet of our pets can lead to dehydration and kidney issues. Feeding a high moisture food puts that much needed water back into their diet - and ultimately into the digestive tract.

The old adage ‘you are what you eat’ should be taken one step further to ‘you are what you absorb.’ This applies to our own diets, but also to that of our paw-ed friends. For adequate absorption and assimilation of ingredients, at least a portion of a pet’s meal should consist of two things:

Contain at least 70% moisture (as-fed)

Fresh ingredients (foods that have not been heavily cooked, not exceeding 165 degrees, or extruded

In addition, when feeding a dehydrated pet food (hydrated once fed), this meal contains more fresh ingredients, and the potency and integrity of these ingredients are maintained closer to as nature intended.

The natural soil-like color of Purr & Simple™ camouflages feces and is your cats naturally preferred restroom.

Based on a single cat household Purr & Simple™ Kwik Klump Formula typically lasts 4 weeks between changes. Individual results may vary.

Flushing: Purr & Simple™ Pellet Formula Cat Litter has been certified as “Safe to dispose of by flushing in toilets.*” It is recommended that a maximum of 4-5 cups of used Purr & Simple™ Pellet Formula Cat Litter should be flushed at a time.

From the Earth to the Earth
Mother Nature provided Purr & Simple™ with an incredibly effective odor neutralizing ingredient the Nutshell! This all-natural cat litter maintains a proprietary blend of fibrous material from tree-nut crops.

This revolutionary cat litter is annually renewable made from resources that can be restored by nature within one year!

Think about it… the trees that are planted to produce food for the world convert carbon dioxide to oxygen. Then tree-nut by-products are used as cat litter to solve a common household problem odor control from pets. And after use, Purr & Simple can be returned to the Earth as compost.

Nature’s Miracle Food!
Bee Healthy - Bee Happy – Bee Smart (like Hippocrates)

Organic, Human-Grade Bee Pollen Granules

Collected from pesticide- and chemical-free fields of lush wildflowers. All-Organic! Non-irradiated! Enzymatically active! Pollen is reported to be the richest food source known. Pollen is rich in all the amino acids, vitamins, minerals and vital trace elements, hormones, carbohydrates, and more than 5000 enzymes and coenzymes necessary for digestion and healing. Remember, a diet deficient in only one nutrient can result in ill health and disease for your pet!

The protein content of bee-collected pollen averages 20-25%; half are essential free amino acids (complete proteins). Mineral content averages 2.7%. Dosage: 1-2 tsp/day.

WHOLISTIC BEE POWER TM

100% Pure & Live Bee Pollen Granules — A Natural Source of Vitamins, Minerals & Amino Acids

Collected from lush fields of wildflowers, this is “Nature’s Miracle Food” at its best!

This super-premium HUMAN-GRADE bee pollen provides your pet with vitamins, minerals, over 5,000 enzymes and coenzymes, and more of nature’s bounty that is yet to be identified!

What is bee pollen? Bee pollen is the dust-sized male seed of a flower blossom, which collects on the back legs of bees as they move from flower to flower. The honeybee collects pollen and mixes it with its own digestive enzymes.

One pollen granule contains from one hundred thousand to five million pollen spores each capable of reproducing its entire species! Bee pollen is one of the oldest food supplements known to mankind, dating back to the early Egyptians and ancient Chinese. Even Hippocrates used it as a healing substance over 2500 years ago! Bee pollen, the food of the young bee, contains all the elements essential to life, elements that act together in synergy and which cannot be synthetically reproduced in laboratories.

Why is bee pollen called Nature’s miracle food? Bee pollen contains nearly every known nutrient required for a balanced human diet: 22 amino acids (including eight that are “essential” and therefore must be supplied through the diet), 27 minerals, most of the known vitamins, and many enzymes. It is 35% protein (more protein than in eggs, beef or cheese), 40% carbohydrate, and 5% fat. It lacks only roughage and water for totally complete and balanced human health and nutrition. Pee pollen is also naturally high in B vitamins and is often taken for increased energy and vitality. Bee pollen is considered one of nature’s most completely nourishing foods!

Why are enzymes so important? Enzymes control the chemical reactions in the body that are necessary to sustain life. Without enzymes, cells could not function. Things that we take for granted such as being able to metabolize food, having energy, healing, having the ability to digest food, just to name a few, would not be possible without enzymes. Unfortunately, when we cook food, we kill all the enzymes present because enzymes are very heat and light sensitive. Processed foods are devoid of enzymes. Wholistic Bee Power TM is very rich in live, active enzymes and co-enzymes. Because it is collected from lush fields in the United States and not imported from cheaper sources where product integrity is often compromised through processing and storage, Wholistic Bee Power TM is rich in all valuable nutrients.

Are there other uses for bee pollen? Wholistic Bee Power TM is known to strengthen the immune system because of its antioxidant properties. Through normal cell metabolism, free radicals develop in the body. Free radicals are byproducts of cell metabolism that circulate freely in the body looking to bind with other cells. However, upon binding, these free radicals cause degenerative damage and disease. They are especially associated with aging. The antioxidants found in WholisticBee Power TM block free radicals, decreasing the damage and even reversing much of the cell oxidation. Wholistic Bee Power TM also helps counteract the effects of radiation and environmental pollutants that weaken the immune system. Athletes often use bee pollen to help increase their strength, stamina, endurance, energy and speed.

Bee pollen has been known to stimulate ovarian function, thereby boosting fertility and increasing egg production. It also increases physical and mental abilities, especially when associated with aging, assists in boosting a sluggish metabolism and thereby assisting in weight loss, and has been known to reduce hay fever and allergies by a process of slow desensitization.

Wholistic Bee Power TM is designed for your pet’s health. We think you will agree!

• Vibrant Health & Well-Being • Mental Alertness • Enhanced Immune System • Slows the Aging Process • Aid in Weight Control • Aid in Digestion • Relief of Allergy Symptoms • Increased Strength & Vitality • Increased Endurance • Energy-Booster • Increased Fertility

Wholistic Bee Power TM is collected from pesticide-free fields in the United States.

Much of the Bee Pollen sold in the U.S. is imported from China, where there is little to no quality control or regulations. Testing often shows the bee pollen to be contaminated and to contain little of the active ingredients stated on the label. That is why it is very important to obtain bee pollen that comes from pristine sources. Wholistic Bee Power TM comes from lush fields of wildflowers that are not treated with pesticides or other chemical contaminants. WholisticBee Power TM is also non-irradiated.

Your pets deserve the best! Give them Wholistic Bee Power TM Nutritional analysis of this exceptionally dynamic supplement shows that it contains a variety of vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates and free amino acids.

Recommended Feeding Guidelines:

1-2 Tsp Daily Sprinkled on Food.

‘Tis the Season to Overindulge

We admit it—we’re overindulging in holiday goodies!

With all the treats around at this time of year it’s difficult not to overdo it and the same thing can happen with our pets!

Below is a great article by Dr. Melissa Shelton that talks about the essential oil Di-Gize (by Young Living) to help ease our tummy aches no matter what the cause.

Along with the Di-Gize Dr. Shelton recommends, to help ease your pooch’s tummy aches we also recommend canned pumpkin, coconut oil and a digestive enzyme. The Perfect Form by Honest Kitchen is another great option for any kind of dietary upset.

Di-Gize is an essential oil blend which is incredibly helpful for any gastrointestinal upset. (For both humans AND animals!)Whether the flu or food poisoning, if you do happen to get sick here are a few tips to help you to speed through the unpleasantness. Di-Gize is an essential oil blend which is incredibly helpful for any gastrointestinal upset. From nausea to diarrhea to heartburn - a drop or two rubbed onto your belly, placed into your belly button, or rubbed onto your feet - delivers relief. Animals can be “pet” with a light coating of this oil on your hands, and receive the same benefits - including help with car sickness. When you “know” you might have to vomit - but it just isn’t quite happening yet… Filling an empty gel capsule with DiGize and swallowing it down - will either make you feel better or purge whatever has to come up - UP and OUT! Peppermint oil can be dripped into the belly button or rubbed onto the bottoms of your feet to help relieve fevers, nausea, headaches, and more. Every essential oil can boost your immune system - however when our family feels like we are starting to “go down” - we often reach for a Raindrop Technique application of oils or ImmuPower essential oil blend. By using these oils - we have averted certain illness many times. You can find many past newsletter articles on using oils at www.OilyVet.com or follow this link to a newsletter on the basics of using essential oils.

Remember, I only recommend the use of Young Living Essential Oils for use in or around animals (and humans for that matter). This brand of essential oils consistently shows the quality needed for use in animals - and the use of other brands may prove dangerous for your animals. Through research, case studies, and retrospective studies - I am documenting the difference in qualities of essential oils in my veterinary hospital. I do not make this recommendation lightly! —Dr. Melissa Shelton

A Recipe for a Happy Hanukkah
by Helen Fazio, Travel Dog Blogger

This year, Hanukkah starts on December 20 at sundown. Here’s a traditional recipe, adapted for dogs. Two small latkes will make your pup feel he is part of the fun. Treats in moderation are the spice of life!

Mmmm, latkes for everyone!Combine 4 cubed sweet potatoes, 2 eggs, 2 tbsp all-purpose flour, and 1 tsp baking powder, and pulse in a blender until thoroughly mixed.

Heat 1/4 cup canola oil in a skillet over medium heat. Scoop up about 1/3 cup of the mixture and shape into a patty. Fry each latke for 2 to 3 minutes per side until brown and crisp, adding more oil as needed. Dab the latkes with a paper towel after cooking and top with a dab of unsweetened applesauce for that authentic touch.

“Enzymes are life and when your dog is out of enzymes, he is out of life.”

—from “Enzymes And Your Dog” by Dogs Naturally on December 1, 2011

Enzymes are responsible for every metabolic reaction that takes place in your body, whether it is the blinking of your eye or the functioning of your liver. Of course, the same applies to your dog’s body.

The body also uses enzymes to digest and use food. There are two types of enzymes that do that: enzymes in the food itself, and digestive enzymes that reside in the digestive organs. The body can’t produce a finite supply of digestive enzymes – like a bank account, if you continuously make withdrawals without depositing money, you will soon be broke.

This is what happens when dogs eat processed pet foods. Cooking at temperatures above 118 o F destroys the naturally occurring enzymes in food. This means your dog’s body has to produce all of the enzymes necessary to digest the food and sooner or later, this limited supply will be used up. If the body is constantly producing enzymes for digestion, it can’t produce the enzymes needed for maintaining healthy tissue and cleaning up toxins in the body. This places strain on the pancreas as it must be constantly producing digestive enzymes instead of its normal work as part of the immune system. This strain leads to ill health, chronic disease such as diabetes, arthritis and allergies, and a shortened lifespan. Enzymes are life and when your dog is out of enzymes, he is out of life.

The best solution is to feed your dog foods that already have an abundance of enzymes. Whereas processed foods are ‘dead’, raw foods have an abundance of enzymes. In order to function optimally, enzymes work in close association with vitamins and minerals. Vitamins are known as co-enzymes and minerals are known as co-factors. Vitamins and minerals will also be found in abundance in raw foods.

Supplementing with enzymes is often a good idea. Enzymes are used up faster during some illnesses, extremes in weather or strenuous exercise. Older dogs will also benefit from enzyme supplementation as the amount of enzymes produced in the body declines with age and this is partly responsible for age-related illness and debilitation.

Enzyme supplements should be taken with meals – simply open up the capsule and sprinkle it on your dog’s food. Stay away from enzymes with an enteric coating as the enzymes will be released too late and the body will have already used its own enzymes to digest the food.

Did you know?…

… even a 10% spending shift from chain stores to local businesses could result in nearly $140M in new economic activity, create over 1,600 new jobs and provide over $50M in new wages to the local community? (data from Grand Rapids Local First)

Remember, for every $1 you spend at a locally owned business, more than 68¢, versus 43¢ spent at a national chain, remains in Milwaukee.

Butterfly Drinking Frankincense

Our friend, Melissa Shelton DVM, shared a video on her Facebook page that we just have to share! Here’s what Dr. Melissa had to say about it:

My daughter rescued an injured butterfly this summer. If you listen carefully - you’ll hear her whisper “Mom, I think she likes it. Don’t take it away.” Pretty Amazing!
